About the Foundation

The Hall Steps Foundation partners with community leaders in Ethiopia to help children move from crisis to stability through safety, education, and opportunity.

Founded by Ryan and Sara Hall, The Hall Steps Foundation began as a way to turn running into lasting change. Guided by the belief that steady, consistent effort creates meaningful impact, the foundation connects donors and runners with community-based programs that give children in Ethiopia a safe place to grow, learn, and thrive.

Our Founders

Ryan and Sara Hall are two of America’s most accomplished distance runners. Together they have represented the United States in World Championships, major marathons, and the Olympic Games.

Their shared goal has always been larger than competition. In 2009, they founded The Hall Steps Foundation to channel their experience in running into meaningful support for children and families in need.

Our Vision

“Running taught us that progress is built on consistency and community. The Hall Steps Foundation is an extension of that truth—every donation, every mile, every act of care becomes part of something larger.”

Our History

Since 2009, The Hall Steps Foundation has connected the running community with global impact. Over the years, Steps has supported:

  • Microloans through Kiva- more than $414,050 in loans to 5,106 borrowers, 73 percent women.

  • Clean-water and health initiatives in partnership with organizations like World Vision, IRIS Ministries, and KickStart.

  • Education and care programs for children in Ethiopia through Hope for the Fatherless, Shamida Ethiopia, and Make Your Mark.

These early programs laid the foundation for what Steps is today—a focused, collaborative effort to support children and youth in Ethiopia.

The Hall Steps Foundation exists to support a network of community partners who are creating change from within Ethiopia. Together, we focus on helping children build stable, independent lives through safety, education, and opportunity.

Our commitment is long-term. We invest in programs that strengthen families, expand access to education, and create pathways to employment for youth. By standing alongside local leaders, we help ensure that every child has the chance to grow up safe, supported, and ready for the future.

Join us in building opportunity for the next generation.
